The Night Before KCSE: What Should You Actually Do?
When the exam is hours away, more notes are not automatically better. Use the final evening to arrive prepared, organised and able to think.
It is the night before the paper. Someone in the dormitory or WhatsApp group has discovered a topic you have barely touched. Another person is predicting questions. Suddenly your carefully prepared evening turns into an emergency.
This is where candidates can damage tomorrow while trying to rescue tonight.
Do not attempt to swallow the syllabus
Use the evening for light, deliberate review: formulas or facts you already know but want fresh, a short look at your recurring mistakes, and a few representative questions. This is not the ideal time to rebuild an entire subject from zero.
Remove morning problems tonight
- Know the reporting time and paper.
- Prepare the materials you are permitted to bring.
- Arrange what you will wear.
- Set your alarm.
- Know how you are getting there if you are not already at school.
- Stop revision early enough to settle down.
Ignore the prediction circus
The closer an examination gets, the more confidently rumours travel. Do not let an unverified prediction rewrite your final hours. Your job is to answer the paper that appears, not the one somebody promised would appear.
Tomorrow, read what is actually on the page
KNEC’s published instructions state that the time allowed is shown for each paper and that reading time is included unless special instructions say otherwise. Follow the instructions on the actual paper carefully.
Pack. Review lightly. Step away from the noise. Sleep. Tomorrow, deal with one question at a time.
